When Oprah Winfrey visited Australia in 2010, American Express ran a charity-focused online competition. We worked as part of a creative team to design and build a Facebook app to sit at the heart of this competition.
Working closely with design agency, Made with Ed, and marketing firm, Momentum, we helped design and deliver the Facebook component of this successful competition, which encouraged everyday Australians to help others.
The app utilised the Facebook API and the 'like' function to allow visitors to post images and other media to the competition pages, display them on their own profiles, and share with friends. Privacy settings ensured the right information was correctly served to the right target audience.
To enter, applicants had to like the competition page on Facebook, and submit a written brief describing how they had helped someone else realise his or her potential.
The entries were voted upon by Facebook visitors and other contestants. One lucky winner received $100,000 towards their charitable cause, and also got the chance to appear in an interview recorded at the 'Oprah House' in Sydney.
